When logging in after setting up a passkey, you may see messages such as "No usable passkey found" or "No available passkey," preventing you from logging in with the passkey.
In most cases, this is not a malfunction but is due to the mechanism where passkeys are saved linked to specific devices or clouds to enhance security. Depending on your settings and environment, passkeys may not be displayed, so please check the following.
■ Common Causes and Solutions
① Using a different device than the one where the passkey was registered
If you specified the device where the passkey was registered or the cloud linked to that device (such as iCloud or Google Account) as the storage destination, passkeys may not be displayed in the following situations:
- Logging in on a different smartphone or PC
- Using a device that has not been synced after changing devices
▶ Solutions
- Try logging in on the device where the passkey was registered
-
Check cloud synchronization for the same account (iCloud / Google)
Apple products (iPhone, Mac, etc.): Sign in to your device with the same Apple Account (formerly Apple ID) used when registering the passkey.
Google products (Android, etc.): Sign in to your device with the same Google Account (Google Password Manager) used when registering the passkey.
② Specifying a different password management app than the one used to register the passkey
If you specified a password management app (such as 1Password or Bitwarden) as the storage destination when registering the passkey, passkeys may not be displayed in the following cases:
- The password management app is not on the device (deleted or uninstalled)
- The password management app is disabled in the device settings
▶ Solutions
- When logging in with a passkey, specify the password management app that was designated when the passkey was registered
- Check that the password management app is enabled
- Reinstall the password management app specified when registering the passkey and log in
③ Cloud synchronization is not enabled
If cloud synchronization is not enabled, passkeys can only be used on the device where they were registered or within the management app. They cannot be used on other devices or different management apps.
▶ Solutions
- For iPhone: Check that iCloud Keychain is enabled
- For Android: Check the synchronization settings of Google Password Manager
- For password management apps: Check the synchronization settings of your password management app (some apps may not support synchronization)
④ Using a different or unsupported browser or OS
Passkeys are only available on supported browsers and operating systems.
Also, passkeys may not be displayed if you use a different browser than the one used during registration.
▶ Solutions
- Log in using the same environment (device and browser) as when you registered
- Update your OS and browser to the latest versions
⑤ Biometric authentication is unavailable
Passkey authentication requires biometric authentication on the device (fingerprint, facial recognition, etc.) or screen lock authentication (PIN or pattern).
- Biometric or screen lock authentication is not set up or is disabled
- Device sensor malfunction or failure
▶ Solutions
- Check that Face ID, fingerprint recognition, etc., are enabled
- Check that the device's screen lock settings (PIN, pattern) are enabled
■ If You Cannot Log In
After setting up a passkey, logging in with a passkey becomes mandatory to enhance security. (Passwords are disabled)
Therefore, the following actions are not available:
- Password login
- Password reset
Additionally, adding, changing, or deleting passkeys is only possible after logging in.
■ Cases Where Self-Recovery Is Difficult
- You do not have the device where the passkey was registered
- You cannot access the storage destination of the passkey (iCloud, Google, etc.)
