On June 1, 2023, the Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds and related regulations were amended, and crypto asset exchange service providers in Japan were mandated to comply with the "Travel Rule."
In response to this legal amendment, bitbank has implemented the following measures since June 2023:
When sending crypto assets directly to a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP),including crypto exchanges and other financial service providers located in a jurisdiction designated by law (Notification-Required Jurisdiction*), we transmit user information as required before processing the transfer. If such notification cannot be made to the recipient VASP, the transfer will not be permitted.
Furthermore, effective from July 31, 2025, we have revised the method of designating recipients as follows:
Transfers can only be made to a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP),including crypto exchanges and other financial service providers that are eligible to receive direct crypto asset transfers. These VASPs must be selected from the "Exchange/Service" options provided.
Transfers to VASPs that are not listed in the selection options are not permitted.
Even if a VASP name is entered in the "Other (Free Input)" field, the transfer will not be allowed.
On the other hand, destinations that are not classified as VASPs (such as domestic lending services or blockchain games) may still be submitted through the "Other" field. These will be reviewed and approved or rejected by us.
